Holiday Guide
2020

As we reflect on the past year, would we have expected the monumental shifts? Natural calamities, reckonings, and wildfires consumed much of the winter, spring, summer, and harvest season. As we turn inward to build outward, reimagining a future of our making, our relationships feel thickened, our burdens reconciled, and our dreams more visible.

2020 celebrates Luna’s 25th anniversary when in 1995, the winery was born at the foot of the Silverado Trail in the Napa Valley. The Luna team set out to produce cherished Italian varietals like Pinot Grigio and Sangiovese. In this guide, we offer a bit of reprieve and celebration for you and your peers. It comes as a surprise that Sangiovese is the grape used for the well-known Chianti, made in Italy's Tuscany region. With the Italian immigrants' wave in the late nineteenth to the early twentieth century, producing Sangiovese in Sonoma and Napa Valley was common. As Cabernet became king, it soon replaced the Sangiovese varietal in the valley.

Twenty-five years later, esteemed winemaker Shawna Miller leads the winery with unique wines sourced from some of the best vineyard sites in Napa Valley, including Game Farm Vineyard in Oakville. With an ongoing passion for experimentation, Luna Vineyards dedicates itself to delivering exceptional quality, superior service, and sustainable commitment to protect and preserve its abundance.

Luna Vineyards - 25 Years

Cabernet Sauvignon Gift Pack

Our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignons are composed of grapes from vineyards in Atlas Peak, Oakville, and Howell Mountain. These wines have elegance and finesse, and we expect it to drink well through 2029. 2016 experienced ideal growing conditions that produced perfectly balanced and condensed fruit.

  • 2016 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, $75

The 2016 Napa Valley vintage was the last of the drought years and one of the warmest years. Warm temperatures and low rainfall produced extremely low yields resulting in concentrated wines with distinct tannins.

  • 2016 Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon, $90

The 2016 Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon is a strong yet subdued wine. The sub-appellation is known for its extended growing season in deep volcanic soils that create a balance of new world richness and old-world elegance.

  • 2015 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon, $120

The 2015 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignons is acclaimed for its three-dimensional tannins, which will continue to soften for years to come.

Pinot Collection

  • 2019 Pinot Grigio Reserve, $32

Luna was the first winery to plant the Italian varietal, Pinot Grigio, along the Silverado Trail, and we are certainly proud of our history and our estate wine. Our vineyard is located in the southern end of Napa Valley, known for providing excellent growing conditions for white wines. Its proximity to the San Francisco Bay includes morning fog and cooling afternoon breezes, both beneficial in retaining Pinot Grigio’s delicate fruit and acidity.

  • 2016 Sparkling Blanc de Noirs, $48

The 2016 Luna Bubbles Blanc de Noirs is made from 100% Carneros fruit. The region is known for its fertile soils and cool temperatures as it continually receives bay breezes throughout the growing season. The Bubbles is predominantly Pinot Noir, a varietal suited for this cooler appellation. The 2016 vintage was an abundant one, producing high-quality grapes from an ideally moderate growing season.

  • 2017 Pinot Noir, $65

Sourced from vineyards perched on the dramatic cliffs of Santa Rita Hills, Luna’s Pinot Noir is an expression of the best of the coastal, limestone soils that make up this beautiful region. The location of this sub-AVA lends gorgeous California sunshine for optimal ripeness and berry flavors. Simultaneously, the ocean breeze cools the vineyard at night to retain natural acidity for freshness.
